Title Optimization of initial stresses and cutting patterns of membrane structures considering stiffness under static load
Author Makoto Ohsaki,Makoto Yamakawa
Summary Optimal cutting patterns and the optimal initial stresses of a frame-supported membrane are found considering the stiffness of the membrane under specified static loads. The explicit develop ability conditions are used for a curved surface to be reduced to a set of plane cutting patterns after removing the initial stresses. In the first stage of the proposed methodEan inverse problem is formulated to directly find prestresses as well as the cutting pattern for specified nodal coordinates and the stress level at the equilibrium shape. Then an optimal shape and stress levels are found for minimizing the external workEwhere the stresses are found by solving the stress optimization problem in the first stage.
