Summary The present paper describes the formulation for constitutive equations to simulate visco-inelastic behaviors of fabric membranes subjected to long lasting loads. The formulation adopts a lattice model by which membranes are replaced by a set of straight truss elements with viscosity as well with elasto-plastic material nonlinearities. Identification methods for visco-plastic properties are also presented. The simulated results are compared with those for creep and relaxation based on experiments and the validity is confirmed.
