Summary In the beginning of the design process of the membrane structures,it is recommended to adopt the minimal surface as the original design surface. In the numerical calculation using Newton-Raphson method for pursuing the objective minimal surface, we,however,can not always obtain the converged solution. The reason is that the given initial soJutiol1 is not neighborhood of true solution, In the present paper, we adopt Quasi-Newton method and SQP method which are famous for methods to solve the optimal problem and expect that it is possible to obtain the minimal surface easily.
