Summary In seismic design of general architectural structures, earthquake is considered as horizontal static loads. In several studies, however, it has been pointed that vertical vibration can be observed in seismic response of large-spanned roof structures suchas frame-supported membrane structures. If seismic design of large-spanned structuresis performed by using only horizontalstatic loads, structures may not have enough strength for earthquake. For above mentioned problem, authors proposed a seismic response evaluation method. In our method, horizontal andvertical accelerations were considered, and they were amplified along ratio of fundamental frequencies of roof and structure. In this paper, seismic design load proposed by authors is applied to a cylindrical frame-supported membrane structure.Response spectrum analysis is also performed, and results are compared. It is discussed that seismic response offrame-supported membrane structures can be accurately evaluated by using the method.
