Title A PROPOSAL OF AN IDEA OF DESIGN SNOW LOADS FOR MEMBRANE STRUCTURES
Author Yoshinori HOMMA
Summary A new idea of determining the design snow loads for membrane structures in the snow rich regions is presented in this paper. Based on the results obtained in the field experiments on the artificial removal of snow from membrane structures along with numerical simulations. it turned out that the basic concept of the new idea would be appropriate in considering the design snow loads for membrane structures. Numerical simulations were performed on the behaviors of the roof snow loads on the full scale membrane structures in the Sapporo City under the possible heaviest snow fall event accompanied by the breakdown of snow melting equipments. From the experiments and numerical simulations made here. new criteria for use in the determination of design snow loads for membrane structures are derived and proposed.
